Training
Courses 2002
Predicting
the 3D structure of difficult proteins
Training
course organisers:
Rita Casadio, Dept of Biology, University of Bologna, Italy.
The
training course will provide a unique forum both for experts
and young researchers to meet and fruitfully debate the most
recent achievements in the field of protein structure prediction.
There will be open discussions on the
methods that are presently available for the prediction of
membrane protein structures, their accuracy and limits with
the purpose of stirring new ideas and prompting new developments,
both theoretically and practically.

Molecular
interactions: New frontiers for computational methods
Training
course organisers:
Anna Tramontano, Rome
Henriette Molinari, Verona
Roberto Giacobazzi, Verona
Alfonso Valencia, Madrid.
The
course is directed towards people with some experience in
computational techniques and/or in the use of docking programmes.
Docking servers and programmes available now are harder to
use than other prediction severs (due to the complexity of
the problem) and discussions will focus on expected performances
and pitfalls of various methods and apporaches. Physical docking
and sequenced-based methods will both be discussed.

Genomics:
Structural, functional, comparative and evolutionary approaches
Main
contact :
Michel Duguet, Institut de Genetique et Microbiologie, Universitie
Paris-Sud, France.
10
student bursaries are available from the ESF to attend this
international summer school.
It is the aim of the school to mix eminent scientists from
many areas of functional genomics, with researchers and students
to stimulate discussions and communications and foster the
development of new collaborations.

Apex
on DNA microarrays: applications in SNP analysis, mutation
detection and DNA resequencing
Training
course organisers:
Andres Metspalu, University of Tartu, Estonia
Ants Kurg, Department of Biotechnology, University of Tartu,
Estonia
Maris Väli, Project Manager, Estonian Biocentre, Estonia.
This
will be a practical, hands-on training course on genotyping
arrays using glass slides as the support medium. The course
will be followed by a lecture course on the theoretical aspects
of SNP-based genotyping and LD calculation and other technical
platforms of genotyping (MS, ASO, minisequencing, microbeads
etc.)
