Short Visit & Exchange Grants

The Programme offers a number of Exchange Grants (up to 6 months) and Short Visits (up to 15 days) to scientists wishing to learn a new technique or to benefit from being in another laboratory for a short period. They are intended to initiate or strengthen links between different research groups.

Short Visit Grants will now also cover support for attending practical courses (but not workshops or conferences), in the area of functional genomics.

Projects must be related to the Programme Activities and start before May 2011.

Exchange Grants are primarily intended for young scientists. Applications from more senior scientists with permanent positions are, however, accepted (no formal limitation will apply). Grants will not be awarded to provide full salaries for postdoctoral fellows, nor to fund the work of an applicant at an institute to which he or she is already affiliated.

The deadline for the next call is Friday 24 September 2010 at 17:00 CET.

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY

a) Undertake work of high scientific quality in an area of functional genomics related to the programme
b) Apply to work in a European country other than the country of origin
c) Intend to return to the institute of origin upon termination, so that the applicant's institute may also benefit from the broadened knowledge of the scientist
d) Agree to acknowledge ESF in publications resulting from the grantee's work in relation to the Short Visit or Exchange Grant
e) Provide a report on the activity within one month of the visit

Priority will be given to applicants who come from and intend to visit countries that support the programme financially (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom).

More information on applying for a travel grant can be found here and also on the ESF site.
