Bioinformatics
Resources
In
the Bioinformatics area there are huge amounts of resources
and services available on the internet, spread over an ever
increasing number of sites.
This page contains a limited number of links which we hope you
will use as entry points into this ocean of information.
Bioinformatics
and Molecular Biology Search Engines
The
following tools are specialised search engines for bioinformatics
and molecular biology. They will help you to find bioinformatics
or molecular biology resources on the net (databases,
programs, on line services...).
Bio
Netbook
The
BioNetbook, from Pasteur Institut, is a searchable directory
of Web pages for Biology.
BioWurld
BioWurld,
from the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), is a semi-automated
index of resources in the fields of bioinformatics and molecular
biology.
BioHunt
BioHunt,
from the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB), is a database
automatically created by a molecular biology sites retrieval
robot.
Main
European Bioinformatics sites
Most
European bioinformatics centres offer web based resources
and services. The following sites, from some of the most important
European bioinformatics centres, provide a broad range of
resources to the scientific community...

EBI
The
EMBL Outstation - European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI)
- is a centre for research and services in bioinformatics.
The Institute manages databases of biological data including
nucleic acid, protein sequences and macromolecular structures.
ExPASy
The
ExPASy (Expert Protein Analysis System) molecular biology
server is hosted by the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics
(SIB).
This server is dedicated to the analysis of protein sequences
and structures as well as 2-D PAGE.
Infobiogen
INFOBIOGEN
is a French resource centre for Genomics. It offers the scientific
community access to a collection of biological data, tools
for analysis, along with training and support.
The
Sanger Center
The
Sanger Centre is a research centre established jointly by
the Wellcome Trust and the UK Medical Research Council to
provide a major focus in the UK for mapping and sequencing
the human genome, and genomes of other organisms.

NCBI
The
National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) is a
division of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).
NCBI creates public databases, conducts research in computational
biology, develops software tools for analyzing genome data,
and disseminates biomedical information.
Amos'
WWW links page
This
list, maintained by Amos Bairoch, contains almost exclusively,
pointers to information sources for life scientists with an
interest in biological macromolecules.
Tutorials
and Lecture Notes on Bioinformatics
This page is maintain by the CCP11 project (Collaborative
Computational Project 11) which was established to foster
the broad bioinformatics community and the UK research community
in particular.
This
page was contrbuted by Antoine de Daruvar, Virginie Garcia
and Alexis Groppi, Centre de Bioinformatique, Bordeaux, France.
